About Miller's Paint & Wallpaper

Whatever your project, we’re here to help at Miller's Paint & Wallpaper.

Miller's Paint & Wallpaper Store began as a carriage and car painting shop in Pen Argyl. Claude Miller founded the shop in 1923 and the affiliation with the Benjamin Moore paint company began. Claude was a painter who learned furniture refinishing in a Philadelphia manufacturing plant owned by Thomas Edison.

In 1930, Claude moved to Stroudsburg and opened the Pen-Stroud store located at 302 Main Street, which is the site of the present day store. The Pen-Stroud was one of the first stores in the Poconos to specialize in paint, wallpaper, and related sundries. This marked the time when ready-mixed paints were becoming more available for the do-it-yourselfer. Claude stocked these paints for the homeowner, and white lead and linseed oil for the professionals who prepared their own paint. Rooms of wallpaper were stocked for both the homeowner and the professional, but unlike today, all wallpaper of this era had to be trimmed. In 1937 the second store was opened in Bangor.

The business passed to the second generation of Miller's in 1949 and to the third generation in 1973. Between 1973 and 1998, the third, fourth, and fifth Miller's Paint Stores were opened. Contributing to the company's growth was the addition of the fourth generation of family, a son-in-law, and 13 other men and women with specialized knowledge. During this period, the sales and service of mini-blinds, verticals, custom window treatments, draperies, shades, and bedspreads were added to the store product line.

Well, that brings us up to the present. What about the future??? Our business like every other business is in a constant struggle for survival. Increased competition from big box stores and media blitz's from the same make it difficult to maintain a market share. At the same time we want to continue to be the hometown, local paint store that can assist and help all needs of our customers. Our mission is to continue to provide excellent products at a fair price while also supplying the knowledge and experience in a ever changing industry.

We offer decorators at our Stroudsburg store, Tuesday through Saturday, and a colorist at our Bethlehem store on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. Stop by those stores to talk to our specialists about your projects, or make appointments for them to come to your home (there is a charge for in-home visits).  We also have an outside sales rep that will go onsite to look at your project and spec products. They will be able to help with questions and answer any technical questions.
